It publishes articles principally in the areas of anthropology, political economy, history, geography, and development of the continent. Many of the articles are interdisciplinary in approach, especially those which seek to assess the origins, nature, and success of development strategies. A continuing feature section called "Debates and Commentaries / Debats et commentaires" presents divergent viewpoints on current issues; these permit the reader to keep abreast of informed opinion on policy-relevant questions. The occasional research notes have permitted university students, recognized academics, and public policy makers to keep in touch with the latest writing, opinion, and research sources on African issues. A book review and review essay section completes each issue with pithy critiques of recent books and reports on the continent or individual regions or countries. aAfrican Studies
