Hemiplegia is the paralysis of one side of the body (arm, leg and trunk) which happens when a blood clot blocks an artery or blood vessel in the brain, or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. HIV infection can result in hemiplegia via several mechanisms, including opportunistic infection, cardioembolism and cuagulopathy.
