The aim of the study was to determine factors contributing to increased infant mortality rate at kabwe general hospital. The sample of 100 death files were reviewed for the 2 paediatric wards; namely the childrens and nursery ward. Data was also collected from 20 nurses who participated in focus group discussions. The results from the study revealed that some of the factors that contribute to increased infant mortality are ; shortage of drugs and equipment, shortage of manpower and lack of capacity building of staff.
