Access of rural girls to primary education in the third world: State of art, obstacles and policy recommendations.

This paper argues that in general, rural women have consistently lower literacy than rural men but also lower literacy than urban women and underlines however, that literacy is not the most important indicator of access to primary education since in some countries literacy does not necessary imply school enrolment and even less often primary school graduation.
