Theatre in development continues to be a major area of endeavour in African theatre and in its exploration the editors tried establish a balance between the analysis of the work of individuals and contributions of groups to the field. The issue also reflects the editors' determination to bring neglected regions to the attention of readers, to provide ahistorical perspective, and to bring into focus recent achievements.
