Each issue of Extreme-Orient Extreme-Occident is devoted to a single theme or a central question dealing with Chinese civilisation and its cultural sphere of influence (Korea, Japan, Vietnam). Recent issues focused on divination, garden culture, politics, entertainment and the existence of a Chinese philosophy. Contributors examine a common topic from a wide variety of angles and disciplinary approaches. Each volume concludes with an exterior viewpoint which offers a comparative comment on the subjects explored through the lens of Western traditions.
