Normal position of the Cerebellar Tonsils in relation to the anteroposterior diameter of the foramen magnum in individuals of differnet age groups/ Patience Namakau Buumba.

By: Material type: TextPublication details: Lusaka: University of Zambia, 2016.Description: xiii,33p.: illSubject(s): Dissertation note: THESIS Msc (Human Anatomy)-University of Zambia,2014. Summary: The cerebellar tonsils are part of the nervous system which is the chief controlling and coordinating system of the body. Their functional role is not yet known but are beleived to coordinate skilled and learned movements. The cerebellar tonsils are prone to herniation through the foramen magnum in conditions causing incresed intracarnial pressure, which compresses important brain structures that can in turn lead to serious problems or even death. The aim of tjs study was to determine the normal position of cerebellar tonsils and its relationship with the anteroposterior diameter of the foramen magnum in the zambian population could guidance on consideratonss which need to be taken into account when making a diagnosis in individuals with cerebellar tonsillar herniation.
