Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that affects the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, water and electrolytes leading to structural changes in tissues of many organ systems in the body and especially those of the vascular system. Because of its chronic nature, family caregivers are important in the successful management of the condition.
