The purpose of this study was to discuss the patterns of communication among HIV/AIDS clients at the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka. The study gave insight into the client's own reactions to the HIV positivity news or results and the difficulties that individuals encounter as they go through the phases of the crisis - denial, anger or fear bargaining and depression, acceptance and resignation, while seeking new and adaptative mechanisms within the context of their social support system.
