The primary aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of back pain among pregnant women who attend antenatal clinic at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) during the month of January 2012. The objective was to establish if age, weight, occupation and gravida were associated with back pain in pregnancy, to determine which trimester of pregnancy had the highest occurrence of back pain and to establish if back pain had an effect on performance of functional activities during pregnancy.
