This book examines the role and organization of the enterprise sector in Russia. It breaks new ground by presenting the results of a large survey of firms carried out by the World Bank in mid-1994 that included over 400 industrial firms. The survey provides an opportunity to distinguish between an impact effect, or negative restructuring, and a longer-term, strategic, or positive restructuring decision.
