The paper discusses the background to the formation of the economic commission for Africa tracing it through the General Assembly resolution 33/193 of 29 January, 1979, which affirms that the new international development strategy should be designed to promote the development of the developing countries within the framework of the new international economic order and cooperation among themselves.
