The study consists of two parts. Part I outlines the current debate on the World Bank's approach to structural adjustment. The main chapter summarizes the five country studies along the lines specified by the Commission. The most important lessons to be learned from past adjustment financing are then enumerated. Part II consists of the studies on the five donor countries.
