The study sought to identify the background and characteristics of young offenders in Namibian prisons; identify the types of crimes committed by young offenders and why they had committed these crimes; study the young offenders' understanding of procedures in the criminal courts and their attitudes towards the sentences imposed on them; examine and describe the life of young people in prison; study the work profiles of young people in prison and ascertain their career aspirations and identify what assistance young offenders felt they needed.
