The main aim of this research was to generate exploratory data that would provide information on the state of young offenders in Namibian prisons. The study sought to identify the background and characteristics of young offenders in Namibian prisons; identify the types of crimes committed by young offenders and why they had committed these crimes; study the young offenders' understanding of procedures in the criminal courts and their attitudes towards the sentences imposed on them; examine and describe the life of young people in prison; study the work profiles of young people in prison and ascertain their career aspirations and identify what assistance young offenders felt they needed.
