The author argues that the disappointing agricultural performance in most poor countries is not explained by technical and sectoral reasons but also by disincentives and obstacles created by macroeconomic policies. He examines the relationship between macroeconomic policies and agricultural performance in six low-income countries (in addition to Burkina Faso, Mali, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal and Sri Lanka).
