Transport energy in Africa.

Material type: TextPublication details: London : Zed Books, 1996.Subject(s): Summary: The book observes that Sub Saharan Africa has experienced substantial growth in motorized transport. While this has benefited some sections of the population, certain problems need to be tackled urgently if a continued growth in transport is not to put unberable strains on African economies and urban environments. Chief among these are inefficiencies in fuel use of the present vehicle fleet, spiralling costs associated with mounting fuel wastage, the absence of systematic transport management and the rising levels of urban air pollution. The book recommends that transport and energy policy makers in Africa need to devise and implement measures to combat these problems.
