The Barotse Agreement in historical perspective: A preliminary study.

It examines among other issues, the Agreement and its stakeholders, the terms and conditions of the Agreement; why the UNIP Transitional Government had to enter into this special arrangement with the Lozi only and not any other ethnic polity in the then Northern Rhodesia, and what factors undermined the Agreement of 1964 resulting into its cancellation in October 1969. Finally, the paper gives a summary of the current debate on whether to reinstate the Agreement of 1964 or not in present Zambia.
