The study area was the South Ngoni area of the Chipata District in the Eastern Province of Zambia. A sample of 117 cultivator schedules represented an estimated 2.2 percent sample of all cultivator households; 18 percent of the villages and 12 percent of the cultivator households in each village were visited.
