Summary: The paper reports results on a small part of a total research program undertaken by social scientists at IAR and ABU. It presentes a comparative analysis's of the economies of small-farm agriculture in three areas of Hausaland, i.e, Sokoto, Zaria, and Bauch. Further, it discusses the profitability and relevance of three improved technological packages and the implications of the results for research workers and policy markers.
