This paper attempts to demonstrate the value of the study of proletarianization in Central Africa, by referring to the Katanga Copper mines of the Union Miniere du Haut Katanga. It aims at offering an explanation for the changes in the regional African labour market centred on the mines over a period of twenty - two years.
